The best course in our science curriculum… isn’t s The best course in our science curriculum… isn’t science 🤍

We’ve been using @journeyhomeschoolacademy for a while now, and it’s been such a solid fit for our family.

But the course that’s impacted us the most has actually been their New Testament study, Equipped.

What makes it so different is that it doesn’t just teach what the Bible says—it teaches you how to read it.

It walks through all 27 books of the New Testament and focuses on the literary design of Scripture—things like chiasms, parallelism, repetition, and inclusios. And once you start seeing those patterns, it honestly changes everything. You realize how much meaning is embedded in the structure, not just the words.

It also weaves in historical and cultural context, helps you understand different genres, and shows how each Gospel uniquely tells the story of Jesus.

What I love most is that it builds real confidence. So instead of just “I’ve read this before,” it becomes “I actually understand what’s happening here.”

If you’re homeschooling and want something that really grounds your kids in how to study the Bible for themselves, this is such a well thought out resource.

And honestly—even if you’re not homeschooling—it’s still absolutely worth it if you want to deepen your understanding of Scripture.

At Sinai, God came down in fire, thunder, and smoke, giving His law written on stone while the people stood far away in fear, revealing His holiness and our need for a Savior. But at Pentecost, God came down again in wind and fire—not to push His people away, but to fill them with His Spirit and bring them near. One covenant showed us our sin; the other gives us new life through Jesus Christ.

In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we exp In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we explore the story of God’s covenant with His people at Mount Sinai and the promise that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ and Pentecost. At Mount Sinai, God comes down in fire, thunder, and smoke, giving His law written on stone while the people stand far away in fear, revealing His holiness and our need for a Savior.

We witness how the covenant is broken when the people turn to sin and worship a golden calf, yet God shows mercy through Moses the mediator and renews His promise with His people. Through the blood of sacrifices, we see that sin is serious and always requires the giving of life in someone’s place, pointing forward to something greater still to come.

We then see the fulfillment of this promise in Jesus, who establishes a new covenant through His own blood as the final and perfect sacrifice. At Pentecost, God comes down again—not in fear, but in wind and fire—filling His people with the Holy Spirit and writing His law on their hearts.

This story reminds us that from Sinai to Pentecost, God has always been working to bring His people to Himself. In Jesus, the covenant is fulfilled, sin is defeated, and new life is given through the Spirit.

Scripture: Exodus 19–34; Exodus 24:7–8; Jeremiah 31:31–33; Ezekiel 36:26–27; Luke 22:19–20; Acts 2:1–4; Hebrews 9:22; Hebrews 10:10–14; 2 Corinthians 3:6

God’s Word is alive. It is not outdated or irrelev God’s Word is alive. It is not outdated or irrelevant—it is living and still speaking today. It is active, meaning it works within us, giving us strength and shaping how we live.

God’s Word is also a double-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit. When we feel unsure about the messages around us—or even within us—we can return to Scripture as our standard of truth. It helps us discern what is from the Spirit and what is shaped by the world. Like a finely sharpened blade, it cuts cleanly between joints and marrow—making precise distinctions we could never make on our own. It doesn’t leave us in confusion; it brings clarity.

Finally, the Word of God discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. It exposes unbelief when it begins to take root. It reveals when we are merely going through the motions outwardly while doubting inwardly. It convicts us, corrects us, and guides us toward growth and transformation.

Press play, repeat after me, and let’s memorize He Press play, repeat after me, and let’s memorize Hebrews 4:12 together—“For the word of God is living and active…”

This verse reminds us that God’s Word isn’t just something we read—it’s something that reads us. It’s alive, working within us, revealing what’s true and exposing what’s hidden in our hearts. It calls us to come to Scripture with humility, allowing it to shape not just what we know, but who we are.

As you memorize this verse, picture God’s Word reaching deep into your heart—bringing clarity where there’s confusion and truth where there’s doubt. Pay attention to what He may be revealing to you today, and respond with a willing heart. When we allow Scripture to search and transform us, it leads us to walk more closely with Him in truth and faith.

All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,

The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,

In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we fol In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we follow Cleopas and his traveling companion as they walk away from Jerusalem, hearts heavy after the crucifixion of Jesus. Along the dusty road to Emmaus, they wrestle with disappointment and doubt—until a stranger joins their journey.

We witness the moment everything changes: Jesus explains the Scriptures to them and then, at supper, takes the bread, gives thanks, and breaks it. In that moment, their eyes are opened, and they recognize the risen Lord. Their journey of sorrow turns into a story of hope, wonder, and joy as they run back to share the incredible news with the other disciples.

Cleopas’ story reminds us that when all hope seems lost, God is still present and working. God’s love is stronger than death, and His promises are true. Like Cleopas, we are invited to see, believe, and share the hope that comes from Christ’s resurrection. Communion, or the breaking of bread, becomes a tangible reminder that Jesus’ sacrifice was for us, that He is alive, and that we have a living hope until He returns.

In this verse, God calls us to make His Word a liv In this verse, God calls us to make His Word a living part of our daily rhythm—not just a lesson we teach, but a conversation that flows naturally throughout our day. Whether we’re sitting at home, walking down the street, lying down at night, or starting a new day, God wants His truth to shape our words, our hearts, and the lives of our children.

I recently heard @sally.clarkson say, “In the absence of Biblical conviction, people go the way of culture.” This hits home for every parent: if we aren’t intentional about teaching God’s Word and talking about it constantly, our children—and even we ourselves—will drift toward the values and patterns of the world around us. Diligence in teaching, discussion, and example is not optional; it is essential for building lives rooted in God’s truth.

This also reminds me of something @timkellernyc said about identity in contemporary culture. Today, we’re often told to “look inside yourself” and “be true to who you are.” But here’s the thing: your heart is never empty. It’s already full of ideas, desires, values—and someone is teaching you which of those to follow. If it’s not God, it’s culture. So when we think we’re just expressing ourselves, we’re often just echoing whatever our culture says we should be. None of us are neutral. If we’re not filling ourselves with God, culture will fill the space—and we might not even realize it.

This verse reminds us that we can’t leave our hearts—or our children’s hearts—unguided. God calls us to saturate our homes with His Word, to teach, to model, and to talk about His truth at every opportunity. When we do, we create a moral and spiritual grid shaped by God, not the shifting winds of the world.

Press play, repeat after me, and let’s memorize De Press play, repeat after me, and let’s memorize Deuteronomy 6:7 together—“You shall teach them diligently to your children…”

This verse reminds us that God’s Word isn’t meant to stay private—it’s meant to be shared, spoken, and lived out in front of those around us, especially our children. It calls us to be intentional, to bring Scripture into our everyday conversations, and to let it shape the atmosphere of our homes.

As you memorize this verse, picture God’s Word not just rooted in your own heart, but flowing out into your daily life—into your words, your routines, and your relationships. Look for simple moments today to talk about Him, to point your children back to truth, and to live out what you’re learning. When we carry Scripture with us and pass it on faithfully, we’re helping plant seeds that can grow for generations.

War is something we often think of as wholly bad—s War is something we often think of as wholly bad—something to be avoided at all costs. But as I’ve been reading The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul, I was struck by this idea: sometimes war is necessary to establish peace.

In the beginning, humanity declared war on God. In the garden, through Adam and Eve, we essentially said, “We’ll do it our own way—thank you very much.” Had God remained aloof in heaven, indifferent to our wayward world, we likely would have self-destructed long ago.

But God, who is rich in mercy, did not stand at a distance. He intervened—personally.

He declared war on sin and death, and began preparing for battle. Through the line of Israel, He promised a Savior. A war was waged not for destruction, but for redemption. Not to bring an end to humanity, but to bring about everlasting peace.

And when the fullness of time came, the showdown began. Jesus Christ entered the world through the incarnation—not as Superman, but as a helpless babe. When He rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, it wasn’t on a haughty stallion, but on a humble donkey.

This war would not be won by taking lives—but by laying down His own.

At the cross, Jesus bore our punishment. Victory came through His death—so that we would not have to die in ours. Because this war was fought and won, we can now have peace with God.

We often think of God’s holiness as something dist We often think of God’s holiness as something distant, untouchable, or even intimidating. But Scripture shows us something amazing: God allows His people to wrestle with Him.

Jacob, Job, Habakkuk—they all struggled, questioned, and even argued with God. And yet, in their wrestling, they were not destroyed. They came out alive—and ultimately at peace with Him.

God’s holiness does not push us away; it invites us into honest struggle. Sometimes losing the battle in our way is the path to finding His peace.

Have you wrestled with God today? What is He inviting you to surrender so you can know His peace?
